Dear Phil,
When I talked to you on the phone on June 1st, which for us was a rare occurrence, I had no idea it would be the last time. The subject of that call was the very thing I will always remember about you, since I first met you in the early 1980s, to wit, your caring and watchful eye for other people...in this case it was concern for my police officer son. My last encounter with you was an exemplification of the traits that made you a great NYPD Sergeant, coach, son, father, husband and friend to anyone who met you. This is a quote from our last chat together about Andrew, "Tell him be safe, stay with his guys and hold the line".

We had a lot of fun together, maybe too much, going back to the day I met you and you let two civs, myself and Rob W join the 40 Precinct Dart league at McSherry's. In the 90s, I remember during a wild Wildwood vacation and one of the toddlers got dangerously close to the deep end of the pool, you jumped into action. You did not even have any kids at the time. More recently we were at one of our Memorial Day BBQ get-togethers when the very large host , got stressed over cooking a few burgers for 10-12 people and decided it was a good idea to drink a bottle of whiskey before lunch and went face first……you were the first one there to pick him up….it was a little different at your magnanimous July 4th parties when you’d cook for masses of people and still find time to make each one of them feel welcome!

Now that you have moved from the bleachers of earth to the luxury box in heaven, you will have a much better view of your loved ones down here, especially your daughters, your mom and your wife. Keep them safe and strong and rest peacefully, knowing that you have done a tremendous job in raising and caring for a wonderful, close, loving family.

At the risk of blasphemy, there is a rumor down here on earth that there is a new Police Commissioner in heaven…Michael the Archangel is stepping down and Phillip of Carmel is getting the job!

Thank you for everything, my dear friend, until we meet again, keep us safe, help us stay with “our guys” and we WILL hold the line!

PS Please see if you can do anything up there about getting our Mets and Jets back on the field and winning a championship.

To the Rangel Family, Bob & Socorra Levitt and the Huber Family:
My deepest condolences and prayers are sent to all of you on the passing of your dear Phillip. I met Phillip when he lived with his Mom, Socorra and his stepdad, Bob Levittt. He was a fine young man interested in sports. Then, I moved to Long Island with my late husband, Dennis and our late son, Denny. MY sister-in-law kept me in touch with the Levitt Family, a very loving, caring family. Both of our sons were on the NYPD. They were fine, outstanding officers. As a young man, Phillip fought a brave battle with a serious illness. He survived. He had a very loving immediate family which he cherished. I was shocked at his wonderful sister's post on Facebook urgently asking for prayers that her brother would have the will to again fight for his life. God had other plans. He wanted Phillip Home. To all of you, please take comfort that Phillip is now in the Palm of Our Lord resting peaceful. May Our Lord comfort you in the following days. All my prayers and love, I send to you.
