Obituary for Claire G. Koskinas

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Klairi Koskinas embarked on a journey to God, accompanied by the Holy Spirit, to be reunited with her loving husband, Demetri. Born to George and Konstantia Magalios in Karditsa, she was the fifth of six children: Anastasios, Melpomeni, Julia, Loula, and Elias. As a young girl she narrowly survived the violent ravages of communism, which stole the lives of her beloved father and brother from her. Struck by a grenade and left for dead, God decided her work here was unfinished and returned her to his service on Earth. As a young woman, she moved to Athens where she worked for the Ministry of Agriculture. She eventually settled in Boston with her beloved Demetri, with whom she shared the blessing of their daughter, Melina.

After a brief sojourn to Greece, Klairi and her family returned to America and settled in Scarsdale, where they became devoted and dearly loved members of the Church of Our Saviour in Rye. She had an unwavering devotion to the Church, enthusiastically and regularly attending services and finding an amazing community of friends whom she treasured deeply. As an active choir member, she shared her passions for Christ and music with the world.

Klairi was known to all as a beautiful and lively spirit who radiated kindness and love. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, yiayia, aunt, and friend who took deep pride in her friends and family, always graciously sharing stories of them and their accomplishments. She was also a proud Greek and American, who took great pride in her countries. She loved to share her culture with the world through her passion for cooking traditional Greek dishes.

Perhaps what best captured Klairi’s spirit was her role as “yiayia.” Her accumulated wisdom, grace, and love were poured out to Katia and James, with whom she spent years playing, babysitting, storytelling adoring, and preparing home-cooked meals for.

May her memory be eternal.
