Obituary for Jean W. Taylor

Jean W. Taylor, 102, a resident of The Nathaniel Witherell for several years, died peacefully there on Friday, April 17, 2020. She was born in Port Chester, NY on October 14, 1917 to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Taylor.

Following the death of her mother in the childbirth of her twin brother and sister, Jean and her siblings were lovingly cared for by their grandparents in England. When her father remarried, he brought Jean and her sister Mae to the United States permanently to live.

Jean graduated from Portchester High School with excellent secretarial skills and maintained a life-long love of reading. During World War II, she proudly served our country in various war time positions. After the war, she worked for many decades as an esteemed executive secretary at Standard Oil Company in Portchester, NY. She especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends.

Jean is survived in England by her niece Maggie Garside, her husband, James Garside, and their children Valarie and Richard and grandchildren Daniel and William. She is survived in the United States by her grandniece, Linda Gatto, her daughter Angela Balduyck and her grandnephew, James Weeks.

Jean was predeceased by her sister, Mae, her sister Margaret, and her twin sister and brother in England. She was also predeceased by her adored nephew, William T. Weeks, in the United States.

Arrangements are being made by Harrison Funeral Home. Jean will be buried in Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye NY and a memorial service will be held when gathering restrictions are lifted.
