Obituary for Joseph Colao Jr.

Joseph “Herb” Colao Jr., 85, of Kent (Carmel), New York, passed away, Friday, November 29, 2019 at Hudson Valley Hospital with family by his side.
Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 3, 2019 at Balsamo-Cordavano Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Carmel, New York. A celebration of life funeral mass will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, December 4, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, County Road 49, Carmel Hamlet, New York.
Joe was born on May 20, 1934 in Croton-on-Hudson, New York to Joseph and Marie Colao. He graduated from Croton Harmon High School in 1952 and studied at State University of New York at Cobleskill.
On September 30, 1961, he married Ellen Frances Risko. Joe was employed as a Security Manager for I.B.M for over thirty years, where he made lifetime friendships. He was an avid fisherman. He spent most of his spare time fishing on Croton Reservoir and Lake Glenida. He was also an exceptional chess and cards player. Skills he learned in his twenties serving as a Corrections Officer in Ossining, NY’s Sing-Sing Prison’s infamous “death row”.
Joseph is survived by his wife Ellen, two sons, Tony of Carmel, N.Y, Gregory and his wife, Michele of New Fairfield, Connecticut and daughter, Eleanore and her husband, Tom of Hopewell Junction, NY: Four grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Newman, Joey and Frances Colao, his sister Lena Dahlia of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and loving nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded by death his parents and two brothers, Frank and Tony Colao.
