Obituary for Cornelius W. "Neil" Keane
Cornelius (Neil) Keane passed away at the age of 75 on Friday, July 12, 2019 surrounded by his family. Neil was born in Riverdale, NY on June 18, 1944. Neil graduated from Harvard in 1966, and continued his studies at Michigan Law followed by a year of post-doctoral studies in Queens College Belfast, Northern Ireland. Most of Neil’s career was spent as a practicing attorney, but his true passion was his writing. Starting with his post-doctorate dissertation on the troubles in Northern Ireland and continuing through the years with his carefully tended Poetry Shop – verse shared with friends and family – writing was a lifelong pursuit. Nothing gave him more satisfaction than writing and sharing his words with his loved ones.
Neil will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and wicked sense of humor. Though he was quick with a good natured tease, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his loved ones.
Neil is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of nearly 40 years, and his two daughters, Sheila (and her husband, Andy), and Elizabeth (and her fiancé, Dan). He was the beloved brother of his two sisters, Rosemary and Ellen. He was also the devoted grandfather of Grace and Clara, and loving uncle to Justin, Drew, Siobhan, Maeve, Brian, Michael and Matthew.
Visitation will be at Balsamo Cordovano Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM. His Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Our Lady of the Lake at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in Neil's name be made to the charity of your choice.
