Jose Rodrigues Matoso, 90, died peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2019.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Natalie; his daughter, Liliane and her husband James Larsen; his daughter, Ivone and her husband Raymond Cote; five grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Alexander, Eric and Zachary; former son-in-law Fred Parenteau; and many close friends.

“Joe,” as he liked to be called, was born on August 8, 1928 in Almancil, Algarve, Portugal. He was the second child of Manuel and Maria Matoso. His brothers, Manuel and Joaquim predeceased him.

On November 3, 1957 Joe married the love of his life, Natalie Faisca Portela. Joe and Natalie were married in the Church of São Lourenço. In 1965, Joe made the decision to move his family to the United States. They settled in Mount Vernon and Joe worked very hard to build a new life for his family.

Joe was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather that will be missed and will always be cherished.

Joe adored his five grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He was a very social man who made friends easily; he was compassionate and always willing to lend a hand; he spoke five languages; had a passion for gardening and could fix anything.
