JOHN (IOANNIS) N. THOMAS

February 26, 1967 - December 17, 2014

John (Ioannis) Nickolas Thomas was born on February 26, 1967 in Nafplion, Greece and was reborn on December 17, 2014. His parents, Nicholas Thomas and Georgia (Karagiannis) Thomas immigrated to the United States in 1970 and he grew up primarily in Hempstead, NY. On March 15, 1986, John met his soul mate and best friend, Charmaine Georgia while skiing in Waitsfield Vermont. They were married on June 11, 1988 in the Greek Orthodox (Church of Our Saviour-Rye NY) and Roman Catholic (Our Lady of Mount Carmel-White Plains NY) Churches. The 26 years in White Plains were wonderfully spent promoting John's music and photographic career and travelling the world: Europe and the Carribean (especially Anguilla). Throughout John's life he strove to grasp all knowledge and educate himself both formally and informally. At 14 years old he taught himself guitar (gift from his Mother) and became an inspiring composer and lead guitarist for "The Kind". The band performed in venues including The Bitter End and The China Club. His inspiration to play came from his admiration of guitarists in Led Zeppelin and Van Halen. In 1997, John became a World Class Architectural and Portrait photographer specializing in film based and later Nikon digital photography. He became the CEO of his own company, John Thomas Photography, Inc. In April 2008 John became a published author of "Sacred Light Following The Paschal Journey"; depicting pictures of Holy Week services in the Greek Orthodox Church-dedicated to his Father, Nicholas who predeceased him in 2002. Barnes and Noble, Inc. held a book signing event (White Plains) and John received numerous acknowledgement letters from Greek Orthodox Hierarchy (Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Demetrius), Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Queen Elizabeth II, President and Laura Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton and local Westchester politicians. By 2011 he became a National Geographic Stock Photographer. In September 2014 he submitted his Anguilla body of work for use in the 25th Anniversary Island Guide: "What We Do In Anguilla". John was an outgoing, kind, loving, gifted and generous soul-with a good heart and a great sense of humor. He loved and appreciated the Church, wife, family and friends. Favorite activities: Hockey (NY Rangers, NHL and Canada), fishing and gourmet cooking. He called everyone the moment he thought of them. John will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched by his personality, God-given music and photographic talents. He is interred at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In addition to his wife, Charmaine, he is survived by his Mother Georgia, Sisters Angie (Joe) Rondolet, Maritina, Nieces: Gia, Alexia, Nicholia, Nephew Spiro, Boukis family and family in Greece. All of them will always love, miss and keep him in our prayers, minds and hearts as a role model for the religious and personal values he exemplified. May his memory be eternal and may he rest in peace with the Lord; awaiting his bride and best friend, Charmaine Georgia, family and friends to be reunited with him.
