Obituary for Barry Cohen

Barry Cohen, 80, of Brewster, NY, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at Northern Westchester Hospital.

Barry was born in New York, NY in 1936 to Rose and Joel Cohen, and had an older brother Jerry. He grew up in the Bronx, loved to play and watch baseball, and tell stories and jokes. He studied accounting at NYU. Barry was introduced to the love of his life, Holly through a cousin of Barry’s who Holly met at a Bar Mitzvah and they were married in 1964. They lived in Ossining, NY for 30 years. They have two daughters, Terri and Dana, who he loved with all his heart. He also adored his son-in-law Josh and his two grandchildren, Sydney and Jacob. The immediate family spent summer vacation weeks together at the beach in Rhode Island for the last 13 years, a now cherished family tradition.

Barry's Mother was one of five children & theirs was a close knit family, many of whom lived near each other in the Bronx. He grew up with many cousins, including his loving cousin Barbara. He is survived by family and friends that he loved - Barbara and Lee Silver, their children Barrie Hope and her husband Gary and their children Mira and Jacob; Scott Schneider and his wife Lori; Schneider cousins Tamar, Aviva, Hudi, Kim & David. On his father’s side he is survived by the Ziluck family; Roseanne, Arthur, Scott, Jonathan and their families. On Holly's side he is survived by his loving nephew Lee Busch and niece Debra Busch.

Barry loved entertaining & the times spent with close friends, many known for over 50 years: Alan & Gloria Fox, Evelyn and Bill Stupel, Bonnie and Dennis Ayden, Irene and Terry Moyes, Harriet and Jerry Karp, Pearl and Seymour Weinstein, Ann & Alan King were all wonderful friends who shared many meals and laughs. A particular highlight of his life was a 50th wedding anniversary party and vacation in Hawaii in 2014 spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, three of his closest friend/couples, and his cousin Barbara and her family.

Barry had many careers and jobs throughout his life, he was very proud of having built his own Executive Search business in New York City; worked with his late brother in the display business, and after he retired, he drove a school bus. Children always had a special place in his heart, he really enjoyed spending time with them, guiding them, and watching them grow into young adults.

Family and friends will be celebrating his life at a private memorial service on July 9th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. http://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/
