Obituary for Argyrios ""Rudy"" Voukas

Argyrios Vourkas, known in the non-Greek world as Rudy, had a long academic career. He had a PhD from the New school of Social Research in Anthropology/ Sociology. He taught at Queensboro Community College from 1964 until he retired in 1995. He published a book, Christ, Caesar, Capitalism, and Change, as well as 17 articles in academic journals.

Rudy's passion was bridge. He owned and operated the Midway Bridge Club in Rego Park, New York from 1980 until 1987. He directed duplicate bridge, but his real love was teaching the game. He published 2 books, Pygmalion at the Bridge Table and Look Before You Leap as teaching aids. He played in and won many tournaments and was recognized as a Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League. his creativity in developing bidding systems was well respected. Rudy also served as bridge director on cruise ships, teaching, directing games and earning himself a free vacation!

He served in the army during the Korean War (1951-1952). He spoke 3 languages fluently, English, Greek, and Spanish.

Rudy was a "live wire" and life of the party. He loved cats, especially his soul mate, "Mr. Rogero", a large orange Mane Coon.

His brilliant mind, generous spirit, and shining personality will be missed by all who knew him
